US-based Iranian artist has created a pop-up book themed on Persian poet Ferdowsi's epic masterpiece Shahnameh.
After releasing an immersive audiobook version of "Shahnameh: The Epic of the Persian Kings" in 2017 with an introduction by Francis Ford Coppola, Hamid Rahmanian and his team have created new pop-up book, titled “The Seven Trials of Rostam.”
In 2018, Rahmanian also released the pop-up book “Zahhak: The Legend of the Serpent King." The book won the 2018 Meggendorfer Prize for the Best Pop Up Book.
The latest pop-up book narrates the story of Rostam, the legendary knight of Shahnameh, in English with Persian poems of Ferdowsi on some pages bringing the reader closer to the original text.
A description of the pop-up book reads, "In all of Iran, only one young man is fit for the task of rescuing the king. Rostam, along with his devoted horse Rakhsh, sets off on a long and perilous journey – seven heroic trials – battling wild animals, demons, witches, and more, all in an effort to save the king and Iran."
Shahnameh “The Book of Kings” is a long epic poem written by the Persian poet Ferdowsi.
